SOS is a notification system designed to alert business managers or technical staff to problems in the execution of any nominated application, for example, a system crash or replication that fails to complete. The system can be programmed to escalate the notification through the chain of command until it receives a response.

The notification can be via e-mail, SMS, or voice to a home telephone number or answering machine.
